Straits Financial LLC, a member and brokerage arm of the CWT Group, today announced it has hired Ms. Carol Dannenhauer as Executive Vice President and Head of its newly formed LW Managed Accounts Division. Straits is a registered FCM and a clearing member firm with the CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX.

“Carol joining Straits is a dream come true” said Joseph Mazurek, President of Straits Financial LLC. “Carol knows managed futures and she is a trusted name in the industry having served under the Lind-Waldock banner most of her career. She and Straits share much in common so this is a natural partnership focusing on providing quality customer service. Straits does not proprietary trade; our focus is 100% on clients and the protection of their assets.”

This expands our product offering and notwithstanding where your Lind-Waldock account was transferred to, you the customer can Come Home Again” adds Paul Fry, Chief Operating Officer of Straits Financial LLC. “This is an excellent development for Straits, for Carol and for the customers who have trusted Carol to manage their accounts for years.”

“It is a thrill to be associated with Straits and with Paul and Joe” said newly hired EVP Carol Dannenhauer. My career has always been about doing what is right for the customer and protecting their assets as if they were my own. Straits and I have that in common. To me, joining Straits is like Coming Home Again.”

As Executive Vice President of the LW Managed Account Division Carol will be responsible for all aspects of managed futures from educating the novice to assisting knowledgeable clients with their portfolio construction. She will seek out emerging Commodity Trading Advisors as well as seasoned traders to determine which might offer the best fit for her client’s portfolio.

Carol started her career as a CPA for Ernst & Whinney. She left that position after three years to work on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange to learn the futures business. In 1986, Carol joined Lind-Waldock where she learned retail service operations and was rapidly promoted by the organization managing key areas for the firm. Carol then found her niche with Managed Futures, CTA’s and Commodity Pools and grew that service into a major Lind-Waldock product offering. She stayed in that role through multiple company changes always putting the customer first.

Carol holds a BS degree in accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has raised three boys, her son Alex and her nephews Dustin and Dylan.

From the Classroom to the Trading Floor

There is no single, clearly defined education path for entering the derivatives industry as professionals come from a range of academic backgrounds. Still, higher education plays a crucial role in preparing students for success in this complex and fast-evolving field. A strong foundation in finance, economics, and mathematics is essential. At the undergraduate level, students should prioritize courses in financial markets and institutions, investment analysis, corporate finance, and introductory derivatives. Just as important are courses in statistics and calculus, which help build the analytical and quantitative skills required for understanding pricing models, volatility, and risk management strategies. With the increasing reliance on algorithmic trading and quantitative research, a concentration or minor in applied mathematics, data science, or computer programming can...
